Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) sugar: Granulated sugar works best for sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour: For the base of the bars.
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25g) baking powder: Helps the bars rise and become tender.
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25g) salt: Enhances the flavor without making it salty.
  • 1 large egg: At room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) lemon juice: Freshly squeezed for the best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon (2g) lemon zest: Adds a burst of lemon flavor.
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk: Whole milk or any milk you prefer.

  • Homtone pizza oven with bake function.
  • Mixing bowls.
  • Measuring cups and spoons.
  • Electric mixer or whisk.
  • 8x8-inch square baking pan, greased or lined with parchment paper.

Instructions:

Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Step 2: Add the Wet Ingredients

  1. Add Wet Ingredients: In the same bowl, add the egg, lemon juice, lemon zest, and milk. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, which can lead to a tough crust.

Step 3: Prepare the Baking Pan

  1. Prepare Pan: Lightly grease an 8x8-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Step 4: Pour and Bake the Batter

  1. Pour Batter: Pour the lemon batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  2. Bake: Set your oven to the bake function at 350°F (175°C). This temperature will ensure even baking and a nice golden crust. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Step 5: Cool and Cut

  1. Cool: Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Cut: Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut the bars into squares.
