Ingredients:

  • 4 large apples: Choose a variety that's known for its pie quality, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 1/2 cup sugar: For sweetness; you can adjust based on preference.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon: For warmth and spice.
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg: Adds a slight spice note.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour: For the pie crust.
  • 1/4 cup butter, chilled and cubed: Use unsalted butter for the best flakiness.
  • 1/4 cup ice water: To help bind the crust together.

Equipment:

  • Homtone pizza oven with bake function.
  • 9-inch pie dish (make sure it fits within your oven dimensions).
  • Mixing bowls.
  • Measuring cups and spoons.
  • Pastry cutter or knife.
  • Tongs or oven mitts for handling hot dishes.
  • Whisk for mixing the dough.
  • Fork for serving.

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Pie Crust

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Add Butter: Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut in the chilled butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add Water: Sprinkle the ice water over the flour mixture, then gently toss with a fork until the dough starts to form clumps.
  4. Press into Dish: Press the dough evenly into your pie dish, making sure to patch any cracks or holes.

Step 2: Prepare the Apple Filling

  1. Slice Apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.
  2. Mix with Sugar: In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Step 3: Assemble the Pie

  1. Pour Filling Over Crust: Spread the apple mixture evenly over the pie crust.
  2. Dot with Butter: Dot the top of the pie with small pieces of butter to help prevent the crust from becoming soggy.

Step 4: Bake the Pie

  1. Bake: Set your oven to the bake function at 425°F (218°C). This temperature will ensure a nice, even bake. Place the pie dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  2. Check Doneness: After 40 minutes, check the pie by gently shaking it; the center should be set but not liquid. If needed, continue baking in 5-minute increments until done.

Step 5: Cool and Serve

  1. Cool: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours. This allows the filling to set properly.
  2. Serve: Once cooled, slice the pie and serve with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.

Tips for Apple Pie:

  • Apple Selection: Choose tart apples for a better texture in pie.
  • Crust Consistency: The crust should be crumbly but not too dry.
  • Baking Time: Keep an eye on the pie as it bakes to prevent overcooking. The exact time may vary slightly based on your oven.
  • Storage: Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
