Ingredients:
- 8 mozzarella sticks: You can use store-bought or homemade mozzarella sticks.
- 1 cup breadcrumbs: Panko breadcrumbs are recommended for extra crispiness.
- 2 eggs: Beaten, to act as a binding agent between the flour and breadcrumbs.
- 1 cup all-purpose flour: Seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper for added flavor.
Equipment:
- Homtone pizza oven with air fry function.
- Air fry basket
- Three shallow dishes or bowls for coating
- Whisk or fork for beating the eggs
- Tongs or oven mitts for handling hot baskets
- Serving plate and marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Coating Stations
Flour: In one shallow dish, whisk together the flour with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
Egg Wash: In a second shallow dish, beat the eggs.
Breadcrumbs: In a third shallow dish, add the breadcrumbs.
Step 2: Coat the Mozzarella Sticks
First Coat: Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off any excess.
Second Coat: Dip the mozzarella stick into the beaten eggs.
Third Coat: Finally, coat each in the breadcrumbs. You can repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating step for an extra crispy layer.
Step 3: Freeze the Coated Mozzarella Sticks
Freeze: Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a plate and freeze for 30 minutes. This helps the coating to harden and stick to the cheese.
Step 4: Air Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
Preheat: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Cook: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking oil. Place the mozzarella sticks in a single layer and air fry at 375°F for 5-7 minutes until golden. Turn the mozzarella sticks halfway through cooking to ensure even crispiness.
Step 5: Serve
Serve Immediately: Once the mozzarella sticks are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.
Tips:
Ensure the mozzarella sticks are fully coated in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs for a crispy exterior.
Freezing the coated mozzarella sticks helps the coating stick better and prevents the cheese from melting too quickly.
Keep an eye on the mozzarella sticks as they cook to prevent overcooking. If you notice cheese escaping, it's time to remove them.
