Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe bananas: Choose bananas that are yellow with small brown spots for the best flavor and sweetness.

Equipment:

  • Homtone pizza oven with dehydrate function.
  • Baking sheets or silicone baking mats.
  • Parchment paper (optional, for easier cleanup).
  • A sharp knife.
  • Tongs or oven mitts for handling hot trays.
  • Wire rack for cooling the chips.
  • Airtight container for storing the finished chips.

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Bananas

  1. Wash the Bananas: Rinse the bananas thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or residue.
  2. Peel and Slice: Using a sharp knife, peel the bananas and slice them into thin, even rounds about 1/8-inch (3mm) thick. Thinner slices will dehydrate faster and more evenly.

Step 2: Arrange the Banana Slices

  1. Prepare the Baking Sheets: Line your baking sheets with parchment paper or use silicone baking mats to prevent sticking.
  2. Place Banana Slices: Arrange the banana slices in a single layer on the baking sheets, ensuring they don't overlap. Overlapping can cause uneven dehydration.

Step 3: Dehydrate the Bananas

  1. Dehydrate: Set your oven to the DEHYDRATE function at 225°F (107°C). This temperature will help remove moisture from the banana slices without burning them. Place the baking sheets with banana slices in the oven. Dehydrate for 2-3 hours, or until the banana slices are completely dry and crisp. The exact time may vary depending on the thickness of your banana slices and the efficiency of your oven.

Step 4: Cool and Serve

  1. Cool: Remove the banana chips from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes to allow any residual heat to dissipate.
  2. Transfer: Once cooled, transfer the dehydrated banana chips to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps maintain their crispness.
  3. Serve: Enjoy your homemade dehydrated banana chips as they are or store them in an airtight container for later.

Tips for Dehydrated Banana Chips:

  • Banana Selection: Ripe bananas are best for this recipe as they have a sweeter taste and firmer texture.
  • Slice Uniformity: Try to keep the banana slices as uniform as possible for even dehydration.
  • Monitoring: Check on your banana chips periodically to ensure they don't over-dehydrate.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place to maintain their crispness. If they start to soften, you can dehydrate them a bit longer next time you want to enjoy them.
