Ingredients:

  • 1 block firm tofu: About 1 pound (450g), drained and pressed to remove excess moisture.
  • 1 cup soy sauce: Use a low-sodium variety if possible.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil: For brushing and adding a nutty flavor.

Equipment:

  • Homtone pizza oven with manual function.
  • Baking sheet or enameled baking tray that fits within your oven (13.4" x 13.4").
  • Tongs or oven mitts for handling hot trays.
  • A brush or pastry brush for the soy sauce.
  • Serving plate.

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat: Set your oven to the MANUAL function at 375°F (190°C). This temperature will ensure even cooking and a nice crust on the tofu.

Step 2: Prepare the Tofu

  1. Drain and Press: Drain the tofu and place it between paper towels to press out excess water for about 15 minutes.
  2. Slice: Cut the tofu into 1/2-inch thick slices.

Step 3: Brush with Soy Sauce and Sesame Oil

  1. Mix Sauce and Oil: In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce and sesame oil.
  2. Brush Tofu: Using a brush, coat each slice of tofu generously with the soy sauce mixture, ensuring both sides are covered.

Step 4: Bake the Tofu

  1. Place on Baking Sheet: Arrange the tofu slices in a single layer on the baking sheet, leaving a little space between slices to allow for heat circulation.
  2. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through to ensure even cooking and browning.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Cool: Remove the tofu from the oven and let it cool for a minute or two.
  2. Serve: Transfer the baked tofu to a serving plate. You can serve it as is or with additional soy sauce, steamed rice, or a side salad.

Tips for Baked Tofu with Soy Sauce:

  • Tofu Pressing: Pressing the tofu helps remove moisture, which allows it to better absorb the flavors of the soy sauce.
  • Sauce Consistency: Make sure the soy sauce isn't too thick, so it coats the tofu evenly.
  • Baking Time: Keep an eye on the tofu as it bakes to prevent burning. The exact time may vary slightly based on your oven.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
