Preparation
-
Inspect the Machine: Before you start, give your coffee machine a quick once-over to ensure everything looks good. Check that all parts are properly connected, and the plug is in good condition.
-
Gather Your Materials: Have your fresh water, quality coffee grounds, and a filter or reusable filter ready. The right materials are the foundation of a great brew.
Brewing Steps
-
Fill the Water Tank: Open the water tank lid and fill it with fresh, cool water. The amount depends on how many cups you want. Make sure not to exceed the MAX fill line. Once you've added the water, replace the lid.
-
Insert the Filter: Place a #4 filter paper or a reusable filter into the funnel, making sure it's properly and securely positioned. A good filter ensures your coffee is free from unwanted particles.
-
Add Coffee Grounds: Spoon your coffee grounds into the filter. A good starting point is about 8 grams per cup. You can adjust this to taste, using more or less depending on how strong you like your coffee. It's also a good idea to consult the suggested recipes table for guidance.
-
Check Funnel Installation: Before you start brewing, ensure the funnel is securely mounted with the showerhead centered over it. Place the lid on. Proper installation prevents leaks and ensures even brewing.
-
Position Carafe and Plug In: Put the carafe on the heating plate. Then plug in your coffee maker and turn it on.
-
Adjust Flow Control Valve: Turn the valve clockwise to the "Drip Stop" position before you start brewing. This helps prevent any overflow. Press the On/Off button (you'll see a blue light come on). You can adjust the flow control valve to suit your taste.
-
Start Brewing: Press the ON/OFF button to begin. The blue light will illuminate. Brewing starts quickly. The water is heated, passes through the showerhead into the brew basket, and then through the grounds. If you need to interrupt brewing for any reason, just press ON/OFF again.
-
After Brewing: When the brewing cycle is complete, turn the control valve to the "Drip Stop" position. Press the On/Off button again. The blue light will go out. Carefully remove the carafe and pour yourself a cup of delicious coffee. The lid may become hot during or after brewing. Wait at least 10 minutes before opening it.
-
Keep Warm Function: If you're not serving the coffee immediately after brewing, the machine will automatically keep the carafe warm. The blue light remains on during this process until the heating plate automatically turns off after 120 minutes.
-
Empty Water Reservoir: After each brew, empty any remaining water from the boiler. Otherwise, the standing water can produce odors and lead to a white powder buildup. To do this safely: * Unplug the Appliance: Always turn off and unplug the machine when not in use. * Detach the Showerhead, Filter Basket, and Carafe: Then invert the brewer.
Safety Tips
-
Warning: The showerhead gets hot during brewing. Avoid touching it to prevent burns. Do not remove the showerhead, filter, funnel, or carafe during brewing, as hot water could splash and cause injury.
-
Note: The brewed coffee volume will be less than the water added, as some water is absorbed by the coffee grounds.
With these steps, you're all set to enjoy a perfect pot of coffee every time you use your Homtone coffee maker. Happy brewing!
